Jumpstart ANGEL Migration for Spring 2008

Faculty with SLN and CourseSpace experience who are interested in participating in the Spring 2008 Expansion are encouraged to enroll in the “Migration To ANGEL” training that is being offered this Summer.

Training is currently scheduled for May 23, 2007 and June 22, 2007.

Please contact Reena Lederman Gerard, Online Instructional Designer, immediately. If these dates are not convenient, there will be other opportunities for ANGEL training in the Fall 2007 semester.

SUNYIT Adopts ANGEL as Learning Management System

SUNYIT has adopted ANGEL as its first integrated learning management system. ANGEL will serve as the primary means for online interaction between faculty members and the students registered for their classes. It will provide a uniform and stable online environment supporting traditional face-to-face, hybrid and fully online courses. A pilot launch and expansion are scheduled for Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 semesters. CETL will work with a recently-established ANGEL Working Group to provide policy guidance through the implementation period.

CETL Awardees to present at CIT 2007

Five SUNYIT faculty members will participate in a session at the Conference on Instructional Technologies to be held next month at SUNY Plattsburgh, and organized by CETL.

Individualized Teaching Technology Grant Awards Announced

Five SUNYIT Faculty members have been awarded “Individualized Teaching Technology” grants through CETL. The technology requested, including a SmartBoard, Laptops, an iPod, and Voice Recorders — should be in the hands of the recipients by the end of March.

• CETL to host “Idea Laboratory” sessions in December and January to help faculty translate instructional goals and concepts into grant proposals.

Demonstration: Horizon Wimba

Demonstration: Math Online

Two faculty members from HCCC — Sven Trenholm and Mike Oriolo — will present their approach to teaching Mathematics online at a special seminar hosted by the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. The Mathematics program at HCCC has used streaming Internet-based applications, including MATLAB and other software packages, to deliver online learning opportunities. In particular, the focus will be on the following on-line mathematics courses: Developmental Mathematics and Calculus.Friday, November 17, 2-3:30 PM in G159.

Demonstration: iPod University

PodCasting offers new opportunities to reach our students with audio and video materials delivered to their iPods or other MP3 players or to their computers.  A new initiative — Apple Computer’s  iTunes University “is a free, hosted service for colleges and universities that provides easy access to educational content, including lectures and interviews 24 hours a day, 7 days a week”.
